Detectives hope someone in the community may have answers to help identify a man whose body was uncovered in a communal bathroom of a hotel, as key details found in his possession are revealed.

The man, described as being aged between 50 to 55-years-old, was located in the communal toilets on Alfred Street in North Sydney back on Friday December 10, 1965.The man was staying at the hotel under the name"K.Cox" but some of his clothes found in his possession were labelled with"P.Wilson" and"West".

Other guests at the hotel claimed the man told them he had a wife and family who lived on Princes Street in the regional NSW town of Grafton, six hours north of Sydney. The man's case was put in the hands of the State Crime Command's Missing Persons Registry, which is this year focused on identifying unknown bodies and remains.

"This week we're calling on members of our wider community to come forward and voluntarily provide their DNA to a public database to help us piece together who this man is and what has happened to him," he said.
