Anthony Volpe exited Thursday night's loss to the Angels with pain in his left foot after an injury scare in the early innings.
Anthony Volpe fouled a ball off his left foot in the second inning of Thursday night's loss to the Angels, exiting the game later on.The shortstop exited the game due to a sore left foot. He fouled a ball off that front foot during his first at-bat of the night in the second inning.
Volpe stayed in the game throughout the middle innings, but ended up departing for the night after popping out in the bottom of the seventh. Oswaldo Cabrera replaced him on defense to begin the top of the eighth.After the 9-4 loss to Los Angeles, Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed that X-rays on Volpe’s foot came back negative. They’re treating it as a contusion.
“He’s in pretty good spirits right now,” Boone said. “Hopefully everything is alright and he can get back out there.”Volpe has played in a team-high 115 games this season, sitting out only once. That was all the way back in the first week of the regular season when he was scratched from the series finale against the Astros in Houston with an upset stomach.
