Broadway stars like Liz Callaway, Stephanie J. Block and Rachel Bay Jones are performing in the virtual concert program, The Seth Concert Series.
The stars love it too. ”Seth knows more about my career than I do!,” says Rachel Bay Jones who won a Tony Award for playing Evan Hansen’s mom Heidi in. “I consider myself to be a pretty shy, private person, but he won’t stand for that. He pulls the craziest stories out of me. And his brain is so fast there’s no time for me to have a filter. He also makes me laugh. Especially at myself.”
When it seemed clear that the concerts would not come back in their prior format for a long time, the series was taken online with producer Mark Cortale at the helm. A key part ofis that the performers sing while Rudetsky accompanies. However, with most streaming services, there is usually a delay when two people perform from different locations. “It's been a nightmare to play the piano in one place and have someone sing in another,” says Rudetsky.
Since the Seth Concert Series began in May they have featured a riveting roster of Broadway talents like Kelli O’Hara, Audra McDonald, Norm Lewis, Megan Hilty, Jeremy Jordan, Jessie Mueller, Lea Salonga, Melissa Errico, Cheyenne Jackson, Liz Callaway and Stephanie J.Block. Rachel Bay Jones appears on Sunday August 23 and the show will be replayed on August 24. Sierra Boggess, Karen Olivo and Jeremy Jordan have also been added as several concerts are available on demand.
