As the founder of a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people avoid and recover from eating disorders through yoga, Chelsea Roff travels frequently for trainings. So, she recently decided to give up her home and work from a campervan around the world. Here, she shares her tips.
Chelsea Roff is the founder and director of Eat Breathe Thrive , a nonprofit organization that works to prevent and help people recover from eating disorders through yoga. As a yoga therapist, researcher, and educator, she has spent close to a decade working to develop, research, and scale yoga programs for people facing mental illness. Recently, Roff also took on a new role as UK Operations Director for The Give Back Yoga Foundation , which is the larger charity under which EBT operates.
“It wasn’t hard running EBT from the road, to be honest,” Roff says. “I built my organization in a way that doesn’t require me to be in one place. I didn’t do that because I wanted to be able to travel – although in retrospect, it has been a huge bonus. The intention was actually the reverse. I figured if people needed help, I didn’t want them to have to come to my city to get it.
Roff discovered her life purpose while in her 20s, after recovering from an eating disorder that nearly took her life. At fifteen, she was hospitalized for suffering a stroke caused by the disorder. She weighed just 58 pounds. When she was released from the hospital, a therapist suggested she try yoga. “Suffice it to say, it changed my life,” Roff says.
