As the Republican National Convention is set to kick off Monday days after the assassination attempted on Donald Trump, the Secret Service says they are ready to keep the four-day event safe and secure. NBC’s Garrett Haake reports for TODAY.
This week, thousands of Republican Party delegates will gather at the 2024 Republican National Convention to nominate their candidates for the upcoming presidential election in November. The convention comes two days after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. A gunman opened fire, injuring Trump and killing one spectator. Two others were also shot and are now in stable condition, according to NBC News.
ET. On Tuesday, July 16, the official session will start at 6 p.m. ET and will run until 11 p.m. ET. The next official session will take place the following day on Wednesday, July 17, from 6:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET. The final official session will close out the convention on Thursday, July 18, which will also run 6:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ET.
