The Aeronauts is loosely based on the true story of the key players in the history of ballooning, inspired by Richard Holmes' 2014 book,The movie takes place in 1862 and centres around meteorologist James Glaisher , who teams up with an adventurous widow, Amelia Wren to advance human knowledge of the weather and to fly higher than anyone before them has ever done.
The journey is perilous, thrilling and full of emotional and physical challenges - their trip ultimately becomes a quest for survival. The Aeronauts reunites the dream team of Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones - you may recall the two captured our hearts as Stephen Hawking and Jane Wilde in 2014's The Theory of Everything, which won Redmayne the Oscar for Best Actor.Felicity Jones' Amelia Wren is fictitious, but was likely inspired by balloonist Sophie Blanchard and Margaret Graham, the first British woman to make a solo balloon flight.
