In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and declared that the third Sunday of the month would be National Ice Cream Day, according to the International Dairy Foods Association., Reagan stated,"Ice cream is a nutritious and wholesome food, enjoyed by over 90% of the people in the United States," and encouraged Americans to celebrate throughout July with"appropriate ceremonies and activities.
