As we move into the heat of summer, it’s still a very robust job market with hundreds of thousands of people being hired each month.
But we’re also seeing wage increases start to level off, down from the soaring levels of recent years. Last month, for example, the increase was only 1%.
Every candidate should enter an interview from a position of strength. Be confident that you are a great candidate for the job. The company will miss out on a great employee if they don’t hire you.It does mean you have researched the company and studied the job description. You understand the skills that are needed and are comfortable selling your strengths.
What you’re really being asked is, “Why should I hire you?” And, “What experience and skills make you the right candidate for this position?”If you’re too much of a perfectionist or not a comfortable public speaker, acknowledge that. Most importantly, what are you doing about it? Most candidates are unprepared and end up being boring, rambling or uncommunicative. Sell yourself by proving to the interviewer that you’re the prime candidate.Short pauses to think before you answer are appropriate. Even if you have your response on the tip of your tongue, pause for a few seconds so you don’t seem too rehearsed.
