“We did a survey, and the town picked up 1 000 dog droppings in the business centre. It’s not right. Sometimes I hear people say it’s municipal workers’ job to clean up their dog’s mess, but they will see now," Ménard said. Under the new policy, dog excrement found on the streets would be collected and tested against the DNA in the national pet registers, and owners will be fined with a cleaning bill of up to €122 . According to the mayor, the municipality spends around €80 000 every year to pick up dog poop.
