On Jan. 12, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a special counsel to investigate the discovery of documents in Biden's possession. Robert Hur, the Trump-appointed former U.S. attorney in Maryland, will lead the investigation. On Friday, spokesperson O'Malley said the former vice president and his legal team “fully cooperated with the appropriate authorities and agreed to a consensual search of his residence."
The former president has called the Mar-a-Lago search an “unannounced raid” that was “not necessary or appropriate” and represented “dark times for our nation.”for a possible 2024 White House bid, the document discovery thrusts Pence into the debate over the handling of secret materials by officials who have served in the highest ranks of government. He had previously insisted that he followed stringent protocols regarding classified documents.
