Some races and runners took conventional approaches to virtual races, others met their self-challenges with grit, patience, and some ingenuity.

It turns out, I was not alone in a quest to replenish that competitive spirit by any means necessary. The running community proved to be ingenious during nationwide stay-at-home orders by finding innovative ways to run and race together. From challenging other people over their computers to setting records in their own hometowns, here are some of the best ways runners kept pushing themselves to reach their goals during the pandemic.
