Here's how the coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc with the SAT:

scheduled in August, October, November and December. But given all the site closures this weekend, there may be a scheduling crunch for students planning to apply for early decision this fall. The earliest deadlines come in mid-October. November 1 is the deadline for early decision or early action applications to most Ivy League schools. The general admission deadline for the majority of schools is January 1, 2021.

Long controversial, the SAT is still a required part of the admissions materials students must submit at three out of four colleges in the U.S. Critics say the test does not measure academic achievement or mastery of subjects like English, history or mathematics and it is biased against non-white test takers. Students who can afford expensive prep courses and tutors, which charge as much as $10,000, score higher than disadvantaged students. The College Board has denied the critics’ charges.
