A forced fumble in the second quarter seemed to change the Broncos’ fate. Washington’s offense put up points in the second half, and its defense smothered.
If Davis hadn’t forced a fumble right then, it’s unlikely Washington would’ve pulled off its comeback, which resulted in a 35-33 victory. The Commanders’ offense had gone three-and-out on two straight drives. Special teams had just given up a huge punt return. The defense had allowed three touchdowns in three possessions. But instead of Denver effectively putting the game away, Davis put the ball on the ground, linebacker Cody Barton scooped it up, and everything changed.

“It was just a great call for that coverage,” Forrest said later, though he quickly acknowledged he could’ve been better, too: “I played it terribly.”
