Mike Barth just needed the Texans to do what they'd already done 13 times this season: Lose a game. It seemed like a reasonable ask since the Texans actually needed to lose to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Houston Texans tight end Jordan Akins spikes the ball after scoring on a 19-yard touchdown reception against the Indianapolis Colts during the second half of an NFL football game Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, in Indianapolis.Mike Barth just needed the Texans to do what they'd already done 13 times this season: Lose a game. It seemed like a reasonable ask since the Texans actually needed to lose to secure the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Barth was one of three players still standing for the final week of the season, and his best remaining options were: Colts over the Texans, Vikings over the Bears or Jaguars over the Titans. The other two players still standing in the league picked a winner for the 18th straight week, so they split the $6.1 million pot. If the Colts had held on to beat the Texans, the winnings would have been split three ways with each player getting more than $2 million.

Barth was caught on video watching as Davis Mills connected with Jordan Akins on an unlikely touchdown on fourth-and-20 with less than a minute remaining when it looked like Colts safety Rodney Thomas II would be able to easily bat the ball down.
