The inspiration for a major element of Toho's Godzilla movies from the 1990s is owed to one of Stephen King's most famous horror novels.
One of Stephen King's stories inspired a key part of Godzilla's 1990s movies. As one of the most noteworthy horror novelists of the modern era, Stephen King has been counted as an influence on a number of movies, books, and shows in the genre. And apparently, that also extends to a string of Godzilla movies released between 1989 and 1995.
More than a decade after bringing the Godzilla movie series to a close with 1975's Terror of Mechagodzilla, Toho pressed the reset button on the character with Return of Godzilla in 1984 which gave rise to a new take on the King of the Monsters. The movie is what kicked off what is now known as the Heisei series, which released most of its installments during the 1990s. The Heisei series, which encompasses seven movies, ended with 1995's Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.
Miki's story, which was extended beyond Godzilla vs. Biollante, didn't head in the same direction as Carrie's, but their powers create a clear parallel between them. Both were telepathic and could lift objects with their minds. Of course, Carrie put considerably more emphasis on telekinesis as a weapon. The Heisei series didn't do the same with Miki, but copying Carrie in that regard as well actually was part of the plan.
