SMU's ACC travel schedule, which concludes with a road trip to Virginia this week, has caused the team to travel twice as far in 2024 than it did in 2023.

The Mustangs’ truck and equipment team have driven over 13,000 miles this regular season, nearly double last season’s mileage.SMU Director of Football Equipment Frank Haight and members of the SMU Mustangs equipment crew converse after loading team necessities into the team's tractor trailer rig for its trek cross-country to Virginia for the Mustangs' final road trip football game against Virginia.

Hart’s statement is one SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee and his players have made regularly since the announcement that the Mustangs would move from the American Athletic Conference to the Atlantic Coast Conference.“We have to load a little bit earlier for some trips, the longer trips to California, the East Coast, the West Coast and whatnot,” said SMU’s Director of Football Equipment Frank Haight.

The process they take each week to prepare the Mustangs to play hasn’t changed much. But the magnitude of their job has, as SMU’s equipment truck has traveled nearly double the distance it did last season in the AAC.
