Suddenly there were all these people analyzing my life and questioning whether or not I was a liar, reporters calling me all the time.""People doubting my story was not entirely unexpected, but it was still pretty nightmarish.
I thought people wouldn't notice me carrying the mattress. I thought it would look like I was moving into my dorm."When I first spoke out I just wanted my school to know that it was wrong and not above reproach. I knew what kind of power I was up against, and the sexist, racist stereotypes and victim-blaming mythology I was confronting, and it was important to me to stand confidently in my truth and loudly reject the shame and stigma that were not mine to carry.

Pope Francis is No Longer Allowing 'Pontifical Secrecy' in Sexual Abuse Cases‘Pontifical secrecy’ sounds less like a policy and more like the plot point of a Dan Brown novel, but until just this week, it was what allowed the Catholic Church to protect clergy members accused of sexual abuse. On Tuesday Pope Francis ended the use of pontifical secrecy and “decreed that information in abuse cases must be protected by church leaders to ensure its ‘security, integrity, and confidentiality,’” according to a report by the Associated Press. He also ruled that pontifical secrecy cannot be invoked in instances of “abuse-related accusations, trials, and decisions under the Catholic Church’s canon law.”
