Phineas Nigellus Black had an important role in the Harry Potter books, but his absence in the movies left a plot hole in Snape's doe Patronus moment.
The appearance of Severus Snape's Patronus in the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 movie created a plot hole, but the book provided an answer with the old headmaster, Phineas Nigellus Black. This was a character who was completely removed from the movies—and in truth—he died long before the events of Harry Potter.
When Ron returned after leaving to retrieve the sword and save Harry's life, he had a whole story about how he had miraculously found them since it was supposed to have been impossible. In his case, it was because he had Dumbledore's Deluminator. Of course, Snape didn't have this tool and shouldn't have been able to find them. The film's version just didn't add up.
