From the best (free) resource tools to crafting the right timetable – and why it's important to 'remember to laugh, have fun and be silly,' BritishVogue's beauty and lifestyle director jessicadiner shares her expertise.
So that’s it. Britain is in lockdown and schools are now officially closed until further notice. My first reaction was one of relief: we could keep our family safe. But then came the panic. Faced with the notion of keeping my four-year-old son, Noah, entertained and educated while I nursed my five-month-old son, Jacob, and without grandparents, cousins, or playmates to draft in – well, I didn’t really know where to begin.
I should caveat this by acknowledging that, being on maternity leave, I, at least, am in pretty fortuitous circumstances. I have been slowly easing back into work as Beauty & Lifestyle Director at Britishusing my Keeping in Touch days and dialling into the odd Zoom call with my team, but I’m not expected to be working from home full-time with daily conference calls or filing copy on tight deadlines with a toddler vying for my attention in the background.
So, after explaining to Noah that there was A Big Cough that meant we couldn’t leave our house or have anyone over, my husband and I decided we wanted to make a timetable. Even if we didn’t stick to it to the letter, we knew we wanted something to help us plan our days.
