A potent cold front is forecast to slam the Sierra Nevada and Tahoe Basin on Wednesday night into Thursday.
The agency posted cross sections for several well-traveled highways, showing how much snow is expected to pile up at key locations along the roadways.
"We’ve had storms stronger than this one, but we’re expecting solid accumulation of up to 1 foot and over 2 feet at pass level and over 3 feet at the crest, with 3 to 4 feet on the highest peaks," said weather service meteorologist Scott Rowe.
