There are some areas for the Buckeyes where you can learn a lot. And for a handful of others, you can't learn anything.
Despite the Buckeyes throwing 36 times throughout the day, the two combined for five catches for 34 yards. That’s just 23.80% of the catches and 14.34% of the passing yards. It’s healthy for this offense to get Julian Fleming and Cade Stover involved like they did on Saturday afternoon, but at moving forward, especially at Notre Dame and beyond, the stars have to be more involved than they were at Indiana.
The offensive line might be this team’s Achilles heel, and it might cost them games down the line. Ohio State didn’t allow any sacks, nor did they allow an egregious amount of tackles for loss . But the offensive line certainly wasn’t where the Buckeyes would want, or need, it to be as the schedule strengthens moving forward. The pass protection, thought to be the worry with the offensive line, was actually a strong point on the afternoon. McCord had plenty of time to throw for nearly the entire game, as the front five did its job in that regard. In the run game, there were a handful of notable missed assignments that led to negative plays that either killed drives, or ended them altogether. Against a team like Indiana, the Buckeyes can get away with that. The Hoosiers averaged just 2.8 yards per play and were essentially zero threat, at any point, to score a touchdown. Against Notre Dame, Penn State and Michigan, those mistakes don’t just cost you drives — they cost you games. Seeing that the Buckeyes were working in new starters along the line, some level of inconsistency had to be expected. It’s not fair to expect Josh Simmons and Josh Fryar to immediately play as well as Paris Johnson and Dawand Jones did, considering both are on NFL rosters at the moment, and one was a first round pick.If you or a loved one has questions and needs to talk to a professional about gambling, call the Ohio Problem Gambling Helpline at 1-800-589-9966 or the National Council on Program Gambling Helpline at 1-800-522-4700 or visitIf you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
