In one of music’s buzziest nights, the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards is set to mark its 40th anniversary. NBC’s Chloe Melas reports for TODAY on what’s in store Wednesday night — and looks back at some of the most memorable moments.
Taylor Swift received her 30th moon person at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards last night, becoming the most awarded solo artist in VMAs history and tying Beyoncé’s record for the most career VMAs of all time. Swift collected seven total trophies at the 2024 VMAs on Sept. 11, including the biggest award of the night, video of the year. The pop star began the evening with 23 VMAs statuettes.
Swift’s seven new trophies has tied her for most wins overall, MTV wrote in a press release, and made her the most awarded solo artist, MTV tweeted. Swift ties with Beyoncé as the artist with the most overall wins. Beyoncé has won 26 VMAs as a solo artist, two with Destiny’s Child and two with her husband, Jay-Z, as The Carters, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. She was nominated in three categories at the 2024 VMAs, but did not win.
