This type of routine evaluation is an important part of a safety program, because if we can understand the root causes of even minor lab errors, we can put measures in place to hopefully prevent future errors. If you don’t do anything for minor incidents, you risk having a nasty surprise with something big tolead to an infection. We also used our experience as an opportunity to teach others how to handle potential exposures by publishing management guidelines.
