How Kang in Ant-Man & Wasp: Quantumania Sets Up Avengers 5

AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania writer Jeff Loveness teases how certain aspects of Kang are setting up what's to come in AvengersTheKangDynasty: 'The thing I really wanted to lean into is that Kang is a human being. Kang’s also a very lonely character.'

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness teases how Kang's introduction in the film sets up Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which he is also writing. Directed by Peyton Reed, who directed both previous Ant-Man films, the upcoming third movie is set to send Paul Rudd's hero to the Quantum Realm, along with Cassie , Wasp , Janet van Dyne , and Hank Pym .

While escaping the Quantum Realm seems like it will be a challenge in and of itself, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania also introduces Jonathan Majors' Kang, the MCU'S next big bad. While much mystery remains about Kang's role moving forward, he is confirmed to play a very prominent role in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2025. SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with SFX Magazine , Loveness hypes Kang as a major threat in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and teases how the character sets up Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The writer calls the MCU's next big bad a "top-tier, A-list Avengers villain," suggesting Majors' new character could have a power level equal to or even greater than Josh Brolin's Thanos. Loveness explains that there's a big difference between the two characters, however, stressing that Kang is still ultimately still human being. Check out Loveness' full comment below: "To me it’s all about the humanity. Obviously Thanos is a great, iconic villain, but he’s also a big purple CGI guy. He’s an alien from outer space. The thing I really wanted to lean into is that Kang is a human being. Kang’s also a very lonely character. We’re going to be seeing a lot of him in a lot of different ways going forward, but I really wanted to introduce the humanity and even the vulnerability of this character before he gets to such apocalyptic, Avengers-scale heights. "Kang is a top-tier, A-list Avengers villain. What do you do when you feel you’re not enough against that? How do you step up to face the challenge of this generation, who is Thanos on an exponential level? He’s almost this infinite Thanos. I think we’re setting things up for a pretty dynamic story.”Is Kang More Powerful Than Thanos? At this point, Brolin's Thanos is the most powerful villain to ever be featured in the MCU. After a number of teases throughout Phases 1 and 2, Thanos finally becomes a full-fledged character in Avengers: Infinity War, doing the seemingly impossible and actually defeating the Avengers. Much mystery remains about Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, but the character is already shaping up to potentially be even more powerful than the big bad that came before him. While Thanos was an alien being with Hulk-level strength and superior military intellect before he obtained the Infinity Gauntlet and all the Infinity Stones, the acquisition of those highly-powerful items only added to his strength and gave him the ability to manipulate time and space. Kang, on the other hand, is a human being without any real superpowers. The villain does, however, have access to highly-advanced time travel technology and weaponry from all eras of existence, including the far reaches of the future. Much of Kang's power stems from his ship, Damocles Base, which can travel through time and possesses a vast arsenal of arms and armor. In addition to his impressive technology and a massive army, Kang is, like Thanos, an exceptional military strategist and fighter. Although Thanos makes effective use of his time and reality manipulation abilities with the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Kang's absolute mastery of time could make him an even bigger threat, especially when different varients of the villain start showing up. Considering Kang's massive power level, it's unlikely that the villain will have fully come into his own in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. After all, if Kang was at full power, it's hard to believe that Rudd's hero would really have much of a chance without a team of Avengers to back him up. While it remains to be seen how Kang will be depicted in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, the character is evidently shaping up to be a very different and potentially more deadly threat than Thanos ever was during his time in the MCU.
