The marching orders for an NFL general manager are to supply the team with a quality quarterback and a quality head coach. Joe Schoen took care of the quarterback in April when he traded back up into the first round of the draft to get Jaxson Dart.
Schoen officially took care of the head coach for the Giants on Saturday with the confirmation of John Harbaugh’s hiring.Harbaugh has been in the NFL since 1998 and Schoen since 2001. They did not really know each other in any meaningful way. Then Harbaugh was fired by the Ravens on Jan. 6 and immediately vaulted to the top of the Giants head coach wish list. Schoen“I really didn’t know him at all, but we had a chance over the course of 10 days there to talk quite a bit and get to know each other and I really enjoyed it,’’ Harbaugh told The Post on Monday. “Very impressed, a lot of good football conversations there. Joe’s real, real passionate about the Giants, very passionate about the job that he wants to get done, that we can do together so we’ve already been talking about different ideas and things like that.
