The National Lacrosse League announced the appointment of Jessica Berman, deputy commissioner and EVP of business affairs, making it the first professional men’s league to hire a woman in that position. Also, making Berman the highest-ranking woman in men’s professional sports leagues.

Berman’s reputation within the industry originated at the National Hockey League . When the opportunity to join the NLL presented itself, she knew she had to entertain the idea. “I was excited about working in a league that is in such a growth mode and is hungry for innovation and opportunity,” she shares. “I'm excited to be in a nimble work environment.
Now, transitioning to a new league after spending more than a decade at the previous league, Berman has to adjust her mindset. “My identity was intertwined in a lot of ways with the NHL,” she shares. “So, disentangling from that was a challenging process for me, psychologically and emotionally.
