As of mid-March, with a month left in the season, I would have voted for Jokic. Doncic had checked most of the boxes for being a leading MVP candidate, except for a vital one: Team success. As of March 16 the Mavericks were eighth in the West and on a 45-victory pace. On April 10 in Miami, before Dallas’ third-to-last game and what would be Doncic’s last of the regular season,“I wish we had worn these in March,” coach Jason Kidd said that night, adding that he feared that MVP voters and fans were taking Doncic’s greatness for granted because he makes the game look too easy.
