Nitika Chopra, founder of Chronicon and The Point of Pain podcast, shares her story.
I'm almost 39 now, but I was first diagnosed with psoriasis at the age of 10. Almost a decade later at 19, I developed psoriatic arthritis. The psoriasis alone was super debilitating — it started out as a dime-sized spot on my left arm and a little bit in my scalp, and then eventually spread to cover my body from pretty much head to toe. It was such an awkward time.
I went through this period of really dark depression when I was 15. I couldn't work, I couldn't be physically active, and it was all so compounding and taking a huge toll on me emotionally. While I was going through this though, I randomly got this very clear message: 'This is not about you.' And I had no idea what it meant but it was so profound in the fact that it was one of those moments wherecan tell you it didn't just happen.
Not long after I started taking that drug, I got into content creation and event planning. I did that for a long time before getting the idea for Chronicon.
It’s been a journey of inner strength — that's what's carried me through. And it’s also been a spiritual journey, you know, believing that this is all for something greater and that it was never meant to punish me. At the end of the day, having psoriasis has actually shaped me into the person I am in such beautiful and empowering ways. It’s given me so much compassion and empathy.
