Georgia kicker Jack Podlesny is building on the 'Hot Rod' legacy.
Since both players share the same number, 96, it would be a penalty if the two were on the field at the same time. The lead official announces that 'number 96 has changed his number to 44', Podlesny puts foot to leather and the team runs off the field.
"There’s love, just brotherly love," Podlesny said following Georgia's win over Kent State. "He came up to me in the locker room and said, ‘You’re lucky I love you, man.’ At the end of the day, I felt true to this number and I’d had it for five years. I knew that he felt true to it, too, but he knew that it’s just one play near the end of a drive."
"He had to compete and win the job because nothing is given to you at a big-time school like the University of Georgia," Blankenship told the Athens Banner-Herald earlier this week."I'm always proud of him for doing that. I think the best thing that I could do for him when he was here was just make him compete. I think competing every day over the couple years that we had together was the best thing I could do for him.
Podlesny's religious beliefs, he's said in the past, is what keeps him grounded and helped ease him into the role as Georgia's main kicker following one of the Bulldogs' all-time fan favorites.said of Podlesny's three years as Georgia's starting kicker."He got to watch Hot Rod and see his routine. Pod has his own routine in his own right, and he follows that. Psychologically, he is really strong. He doesn't really let things affect him.
Podlesny has made 12 of 13 kicks this season and ranks first nationally at 2.40 field goals per game, a stat that reflects more on the Bulldogs' offensive struggles near the red zone.
