COMEUP Stars 2024, the core event of the global startup festival COMEUP 2024, will feature competitive IR pitching sessions in “Startup Valley.” A total of 50 teams, including 30 Rookie League companies, 10 Runners League companies, and 10 selected from the Rocket League through recommendations by the advisory committee, will compete.

Finalists from 13 countries, including South Korea, the U.S., the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, India, and Türkiye, highlight the event’s global scope. CarbonEnergy is a climate-tech startup specializing in carbon-neutral solutions. The company has developed a groundbreaking Direct Air Capture technology that combines atmospheric carbon capture with sodium carbonate production through an electrochemical process. This innovation represents a dual-purpose approach to advancing carbon dioxide removal and generating valuable industrial by-products. At COMEUP Stars 2024, CarbonEnergy plans to showcase its proprietary DAC technology, emphasizing its potential to create a sustainable energy solution for various industries. The core of this technology lies in integrating carbon capture and sodium carbonate production into a single process. The system produces captured carbon and a usable by-product by leveraging the chemical reaction between metal and carbon dioxide inside an electrochemical cell. According to CarbonEnergy, this process also converts electrons generated by the metal’s energy into electricity, setting its technology apart from traditional carbon capture methods. Existing carbon capture systems often face high installation and operational costs, posing a challenge for large-scale adoption. CarbonEnergy addresses this issue by significantly reducing operating expenses through its innovative process. The sodium carbonate produced as a by-product has extensive industrial applications, including glass manufacturing, paper production, detergents, food processing, and pharmaceuticals. This added value makes the technology commercially viable while supporting a circular economy. Currently, CarbonEnergy is validating its technology through a small-scale pilot facility, with plans to scale up to large-scale operations capable of removing millions of tons of carbon dioxide annually. The company is actively pursuing partnerships with domestic and international companies and organizations to commercialize its DAC technology. A CarbonEnergy spokesperson stated, “Our DAC technology reflects our vision of deploying cost-effective and sustainable solutions across industries to address the climate crisis. We aim to present our technology at COMEUP Stars 2024, sharing our business model with global startups, investors, and technology experts.” The spokesperson added, “Our technology is crucial in helping various industries achieve carbon-neutral goals. We look forward to expanding partnership opportunities with startups and enterprises while leveraging networking and investor connections to fuel our business growth.” COMEUP 2024 will occur on December 11–12 at Coex in Seoul, featuring innovative startups and investors from over 40 countries. This year’s theme, “Innovation Beyond Borders,” highlights startups’ roles in driving global innovation across boundaries of nations and technology.
