New information has been revealed about how an out-of-state inmate recently escaped extradition while at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport in Georgia.Joseph Baynes was wanted out of Dakota County, Minnesota, on felony stalking charges.Court documents say he violated a protective order filed by a former romantic interest dozens of times.Dakota County deputies had picked up Baynes in Bulloch County and, on Aug. 3, drove him to the airport.

The search for Baynes continued into the night and the next day. Savannah Police eventually spotted him off Jimmy Deloach Parkway, five miles away, and took him into custody.“He is a very dangerous and opportunistic criminal,” Dakota County Sheriff Joe Leko told WJCL Investigates. Leko says the deputies responsible for his extradition should've known better. “We have a concern under those circumstances because this individual was known to be a flight risk.
