“Most definitely,” he said. “I mean, just from getting on the bus, driving over to the stadium, getting dressed, everything was just a beautiful blessing and great opportunity for me to just come in and just be me. Have fun, enjoy these moments. Never let anyone steal your joy. And that’s the ultimate thing. And I think having, again, my support cast, my teammates, this organization, my family, friends, everyone keep telling me that it was major.
Watson had to fight through plenty of adversity during the game, including another dropped sure touchdown pass by a wide open Amari Cooper, the loss of his starting right tackle Dawand Jones to cramping for parts of the game, more penalties, and the loss of David Bell to a dislocated hip — possibly season-ending — in the third quarter.
At the end of the first quarter, Watson was 7 of 9 for 83 yards for a 105.1 rating. At halftime, with the Browns up 13-3, he was 11 of 15 for 108 yards with no TDs and no INTs for a 93.2 rating. The offense dried up in the second half, managing just a field goal to go along with Alex Wright’s sack for a safety, with Watson finishing the game 22 of 34 for 186 yards en route to a 78.8 rating. But it was enough to get the job done avoid the dreaded 0-2 kiss of death.
