Damian Lillard's freestyle during a seven-hour plane delay went viral thanks in large part to trailblazers videographer Tristian Brillanceau-Lewis. jwquick goes behind the scenes to share how the moment was captured. 'Where the f— is Tristan?'
, but with the music video they also created a memory while also acknowledging they became a closer unit.“It was such an impromptu, random, super authentic thing that happened that it made it all worth it,’’said. “It was a crappy experience being on the plane that long, but the video was definitely the silver lining that came out of it, no doubt.’’Cabin fever sets in
“We waited … and waited … and waited … then all of the sudden, it’s four hours later,’’ Brillanceau-Lewis said.Stocked for a 90-minute flight, the cabin’s snacks and drinks dwindled. Fruit cups became like currency. Thybulle took a break from his book and took note of the developing vibe. In front of him, Lillard was writing on the Notes app on his phone.
Then it clicked: They should do a music video. And they had just the man to do it: Brillanceau-Lewis.As Lillard wrote his bars, and the players began to brainstorm about a video, there was one constant: the players calling for Brillanceau-Lewis. So when Walker finally came back to tell him he was needed, the 33-year-old videographer was intrigued. With his camera in tow, Brillanceau-Lewis reached the players’ area of the plane, but before he could get to the front row where Lillard and Grant were waiting for him, there was an announcement.
“I was like, I’m on the verge of filming something potentially really funny here, so I wanted to make sure I had all my bases covered,’’ Brillanceau-Lewis said. “So I was like, ‘Hold on! Let me change my battery! I will be right back.'”“Dame was like, ‘Arrrrrrrrgh! You’re never ready!’” Brillanceau-Lewis said. “He was half-joking and being dramatic.’’
