Colts LB Shaquille Leonard on back injury: 'I felt like I hurt the team last year whenever I was on the field.'
INDIANAPOLIS -- Shaquille Leonard says he can feel the power in his calf again. He's moving around without pain. He's not running yet, but he thinks constantly about when he'll be able to.
That's why he vowed late in the season to treat the recovery from a second back surgery differently than the first. It's not just about getting back on the field anymore. It's about answering the questions that have formed in his head. "I see him in there every day doing everything he can to get back," said linebacker Zaire Franklin, who trained at the same facility."He's just taking his time. He has a long road to it, but he's making some progress and he'll be ready to go."
His team is in transition now with new coach Shane Steichen. He has his entire defensive coaching staff back, maintaining the Seattle-style scheme from last season, but key defenders have departed such as Stephon Gilmore, Bobby Okereke, Rodney McLeod and Yannick Ngakoue.
