At 32, Bloemfontein Celtic striker Ndumiso Mabena is not showing any signs of slowing down. Instead, the statistics are showing that he surpassed the performances he delivered in his first two seasons at Celtic
As Celtic head into their away Absa Premiership fixture against Cape Town City this afternoon, Mabena will most definitely be the focal point in the attack.
Celtic head coach Lehlohonolo Seema said: “The energy and intelligence in him is unbelievable. Mabena is a player I have known for many years – since our time together at Orlando Pirates. I was the senior player when he joined us [ahead of the 2009/10 season].” “We give him breaks between our [weekly] training sessions because we want to manage him well. He is our leader and it’s nice to have a player like him in a team full of young players.”
Celtic have let in 31. Polokwane City also let in 31, while Black Leopards, with 33 goals conceded, held the worst defensive record prior to this weekend’s matches.Celtic has not had a consistent back four in their past five matches. Their problems started when they lost Ronald Pfumbidzai, who underwent surgery to repair a hernia injury last month.“The chairperson took a gamble with us [inexperienced coaches] and we achieved a top-eight finish last season.
