Thanks to improved chemistry with Caleb Williams, Rice has racked up five touchdowns in just four games this season.
Two weeks ago, Brenden Rice sat at USC’s postgame podium, dripped out in puffy-white designer jacket and custom “BR” chain, and confidently declared himself the fastest Trojan on the team.
In late February of his junior year at Hamilton, he ran a 11.34 in the 100 meters. Two months later, he was running a 10.78 at the Arizona state finals.Look, though – Rice, for all his confidence, is almost certainly not the fastest Trojan. Line about six members of USC’s receiver room up for a 100 meters, and you could reasonably cast bets on any of them to finish first.
Take the second game of the season against Nevada, where Williams zipped and zapped outside the pocket before flinging a touchdown strike on the run to Rice. Or Saturday, when he cycled through progressions, turned around in a full circle behind his protection and eventually found Rice for a toe-tap grab on the right side of the end zone.
