Africa is the world’s next growth market, and this growth spurt will lift hundreds of millions of people out of poverty over the coming decades, says former director-general of National Treasury and now Moti Group CEO, Dondo Mogajane.
This, says Mogajane, is a welcome move that should be replicated elsewhere. The Moti Group, with interests in mining, property, aviation, and financial products, is at an advanced stage of discussions with a Chinese giant to mine and process lithium in Zimbabwe. Its Chinese partner reportedly holds 37% of the world’s electric vehicle battery market.
But these measures, on their own, may not be enough, he adds. Companies will also have to embrace practical, innovative solutions to social challenges such as informal settlements, joblessness and health care.
