To literally add insult to injury, Scott was inflicted with a shoulder injury during a shooting, putting his availability for X-Men in question. Because this was such a substantial project for Fox, they couldn't afford to waste time. Scott's commitment to Mission: Impossible 2 and on-set injury forced Singer and the studio to re-cast Wolverine.
While Jackman would become universally adored as Wolverine, Scott's portrayal as the villain in perhaps the most derided Mission: Impossible film faded away into obscurity. The domino effect of Scott's commitment to the film on the future of Marvel movies and cinema at large is immeasurable.
