The city’s newest top cop and fire chief spent the day meeting Houstonians and taking questions on the city’s southeast side.
Newly appointed Police Chief Noe Diaz and Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz held a meet and greet in the Lawndale area.Chief Diaz is replacing former HPD Chief Troy Finner, while Chief Muñoz is stepping into former HFD Chief Sam Peña’s shoes. ‘He chose to retire’: Mayor Whitmire denies claims made by former HPD chief Finner that he was forced out of departmentThe chiefs took time to speak with residents and local business owners, and both expressed their pride in the community and excitement to serve the city.
“It’s important because first, I want the people to know that I work for them. Second, it’s good to be back in my culture, my roots. And third, that I’m here for them,” said Chief Muñoz. “It is my distinct pleasure to be here and visit with them. This is what Houston is. This is a community. It’s very diverse with different ideas that make this community so gracious and growing. It’s on the move,” said Diaz.They each responded saying they are putting trust in their organizations and Mayor John Whitmire’s plans.Faith Braverman has been working in journalism for over ten years.
