A mixed terrier puppy was rescued from a storm drain in Pearland, Texas, after being trapped for a day. The Houston Humane Society is now searching for his family.
The Houston Humane Society is looking for the family of a puppy rescue d from a storm drain the day after Christmas. A couple walking in Pearland heard cries coming from a storm drain on Christmas Day and quickly called the Pearland Fire Department. Firefighters say the puppy had been washed into the drain and was stuck. They lost contact with the animal, but firefighters returned the next day and were able to free the mixed terrier. He had minor burns on his paw pads from the rescue.
The puppy was given fresh water and warm blankets before being taken to City of Pearland Animal Services and later transferred to Houston Humane Society for further treatment. Officials say the puppy is not microchipped. As required by law, Houston Humane Society must hold lost animals without tags or microchips for at least 72 hours to give their family a chance to come forward. If someone does claim the puppy, they’ll need to bring proper documentation to the shelter at 14700 Almeda Road to have the pet returned to them. If no one claims the puppy, he will be made available for adoption in the coming days. 'We’re extremely grateful for the quick response from first responders in getting the puppy to safety and working with us to make sure he receives the necessary medical treatment to recover and feel better,' said Aaron Grady, Shelter Director at Houston Humane Society. 'We’re hoping to reunite the puppy with his family. If not, we’re here to provide the safe shelter and support he needs on his journey to finding a loving forever home.
