North Shore is gearing up for yet another state championship defense after winning the Class 6A Division I title for the third time in four years last December.
“I think everything we do is fueled by competition,” North Shore coach Jon Kay said during the first day of practice this month. “I tell the kids all the time, that’s the blessing and the curse of being at North Shore. The blessing is we’ve got a lot of great players. The curse is we’ve got a lot of great players. If you pump the breaks or don’t show up, somebody’s there to take your spot.
“I just want to see our offensive line combinations come together,” Kay said. “We’ve created a lot of depth, and I want to see us move the ball down the field and see Kaleb’s development.” “We’ve got a lot of work to do in our front seven,” Kay said. “We replaced a lot of kids. We had a great spring. The secondary’s got a little bit of experience coming back, but our front four and our three linebackers, we’ve got to make sure we’re gelling and competing at a high level.”The Tigers are one of the top programs in the state year after year, and this season is no different for coach Gary Joseph and company.
