Houston firefighter Jonathan Guzman is heading home after a 24-day hospital stay following severe burns sustained during a rescue operation at a Sunnyside apartment fire on January 7. His fellow firefighters' quick response and the care he received at Memorial Hermann played a crucial role in his recovery.

After spending 24 days recovering from severe burns sustained during a rescue operation at an apartment fire in Sunnyside on January 7, Houston firefighter Jonathan Guzman has been released from the hospital and is heading home. Guzman was seriously injured while battling the blaze, but thanks to the quick action of his fellow firefighters and the care he received at Memorial Hermann, he is now on the road to recovery.

Fire crews arrived at the scene within six minutes and immediately began working to control the fire. During the operation, the Houston Fire Department says a MAYDAY was called, and the firefighters needed to be rescued by their fellow crew members. This swift response was crucial, and a second alarm was actually canceled as a result of the quick rescue. Alongside Guzman, Senior Captain Edward Escamilla and Firefighter Darren Jones were also injured and transported to the hospital. Thankfully, all three were awake and alert when they arrived, and they received care for burns sustained during the fire. The community is showing their support for Guzman as he continues his recovery at home.
