She's hours away from making her official debut into society — but first, Starbucks. After Phillips' mom delivers a caramel ribbon crunch frappuccino and pumpkin loaf, her daughter is revived.

"To me, being a debutante means always being classy," Phillips says."I've seen a lot of girls go through debutante season. I saw their dresses, and how close the girls became and always wanted to be part of it." "It's a historically African-American organization where mothers are the members who seek to create opportunities for their children through community involvement, philanthropy and education," explains Jocelyn Greely, president of the Houston chapter."It's attainable," Greely says."We have chapter members from all professions who participate. It's a commitment when someone decided they want this for their family.

After each one is presented, they promenade on the dance floor and salute their mothers with a single rose. Then there's a series of waltzes.
