A few days after the Houston Astros placed their No. 3 prospect on the injured list the team revealed his injury.
The spasms are notable in that it’s the second time that Matthews, the Astros’ No. 3 overall prospect per MLB Pipeline, has had issues with his back.
The Houston native joined the Hooks after he was promoted from High-A Asheville on June 18. He’s produced a solid stat line, as he’s slashed .234/.351/.450/.801 with six home runs and 13 RBI in 30 games. The infielder joined the organization last year after Houston selected him in the first round out of Nebraska.
Houston started him last year with the Florida State League Astros and later promoted him to the Class-A Fayetteville Woodpeckers as he combined to hit .208/.365/.352/.717 with four home runs and 11 RBI.
