Houston-area hospitals celebrated the arrival of the first babies of the new year with six newborns, four girls and two boys, delivered between 12:02 a.m. and 4:37 a.m. on January 1, 2025.

One eager baby decided to make an early entrance while his mom and dad from the New Orleans area were in H-Town visiting family for the holidays.The Woman’s Hospital of Texas welcomed the first baby of 2025 at 12:02 a.m. on Jan. 1. Mom, Italy Akei LeBlac of Houston, knew it was a possibility that she could deliver around the New Year, but never expected Cali to be the hospital’s first baby born in the new year. Cali weighed 6 pounds and 14 ounces.
Emily Elisabeth was born to Katie and Sebastian Olivera, weighing 6 pounds, 12 ounces and 19.5” long. They received a special gift basket prepared by the labor and delivery department nurses in honor of delivering the first baby of the year.Our last early bird baby was welcomed into the world at 4:37 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Health Greater Houston.Mom and dad, Marcely Garcia Ruz and Efron Hernandez, are from the New Orleans area and were in town visiting family to celebrate the new year when their first child decided to make his entrance.
