The Houston Academy boys basketball team continued their winning streak, securing their 11th consecutive victory by defeating Southside of Selma 73-60 in a Class 3A sub-region game held on Saturday at HA's Killingsworth Gym. The Raiders, boasting a 17-4 record, advanced to the South Regional Tournament , where they will face Mobile Christian in a Wednesday 10:30 a.m. game at Garrett Coliseum. Houston Academy , ranked No.
5 in Class 3A, dominated the early stages of the game, scoring the first 18 points, including five 3-pointers. This strong start propelled them to a significant lead, finishing the first quarter at 29-6, halftime at 41-22, and the third quarter at 62-48. Kadyn Mitchell led the offensive charge with 28 points, 19 of which came in the first half. Gabe Glover contributed 19 points, while Judson Bailey added nine.Elsewhere in Class 3A sub-region action, Wilcox Central triumphed over Slocomb with a score of 65-33. Nick Peoples and Tyler Nichols each scored 10 points for Slocomb, but it wasn't enough to overcome Wilcox Central's dominance. Slocomb concluded their season with a commendable 19-7 record. Providence Christian, ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, showcased their prowess with a 69-31 victory over Barbour County in a sub-region game. The Eagles (26-2) outscored Barbour County 24-0 in the first quarter, establishing an early commanding lead. They will face Clarke County in the South Regional Tournament on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. at Montgomery's Garrett Coliseum. Providence Christian forced 23 turnovers in the first half, leading to 41 points by halftime. Pearce Boone led the Eagles with 16 points, while Luke Strickland added 10 points and six steals.In Class 4A sub-region action, Dale County edged out Straughn 57-40. Jayden McGhee led the Warriors with a phenomenal 31 points and Junior Smith contributed 13 points and a remarkable 14 rebounds. Dale County, winners of nine consecutive games, advanced to the Class 4A South Regional Tournament with a 18-9 overall record. They will face Orange Beach at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Garrett Coliseum. Carroll secured their spot in the Class 5A South Regional Tournament with a narrow 55-53 victory over Andalusia. Michael Culver was the standout player for Carroll, scoring 27 points, including two crucial free throws with 17 seconds remaining.
