A 29-year-old housekeeper was arrested for attacking and robbing her 83-year-old employer after being denied a $500 Christmas bonus. The suspect allegedly stole a checkbook, Christmas cards with checks, and debit/credit cards.
An 83-year-old woman was allegedly attacked and robbed by her housekeeper after she denied her a $500 Christmas bonus. According to a release from the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, 29-year-old Heather Nelson attacked her 83-year-old employer, who she worked for as a housekeeper, after Nelson 'demanded' a $500 Christmas bonus and was denied.
The 83-year-old woman allegedly told Nelson that she did not have enough money to provide her the bonus, at which point Nelson allegedly took the victim's checkbook from her hands and stole a check, and 'stole Christmas cards that were set to be mailed out also containing checks,' police said. After the scuffle between the two women, the 83-year-old allegedly suffered a swollen wrist. Police said, 'She actually took the check by force, took some Christmas cards that had money in them, took some debit and credit cards, left the residence, forged some signatures and attempted to take quite a bit of money from this woman.' While attempting to track Nelson down, police said they learned that she had cashed the blank check for $1,400 instead of the $500 she initially asked for. Police obtained a warrant for Nelson's arrest on charges of robbery, aggravated battery, forgery, uttering a forged instrument, criminal use of personal identification, fraudulent use of a credit card, and grand theft. In the department's press release, they made multiple allusions to the Dr. Suess story 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas.' 'While Christmas has come and gone, it didn't stop our General Crimes Agents from playing Grinch by arresting the real Grinch that tried to steal Christmas from an 83-year-old victim and citizen,' the release read
