House Speaker Kevin McCarthy said Sunday he will survive a motion to oust him after Rep. Matt Gaetz announced earlier he would file one.
“Yes, I’ll survive,” the California Republican said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “Look, this is personal with Matt. Matt voted against the most conservative ability to protect our border, secure our border. He’s more interested in securing TV interviews than doing something.”Earlier Sunday, Mr. Gaetz, Florida Republican, announced on CNN that he will file a motion to vacate Mr. McCarthy from his post this week, saying the speaker has lied to everyone and no one trusts him.
“If he’s upset because he tried to push us into shutdown and I made sure the government didn’t shut down, then let’s have that fight,” Mr. McCarthy said. The speaker said Mr. Gaetz has threatened to oust him from his position “from the moment I ran for office.”
