Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said in a statement that Congress has an obligation to secure elections and fund the military.
However, House Republicans have faced opposition from Congressional Democrats,who have obstructed thier attempts to pass the SAVE Act, which aims to safeguard American elections. The budget resolution does not include significant offsets, which will likely rile fisCal hawks in the House. Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH),a budget hawk, has expressed skepticism about the resolution, saying it will likely fail.
Home Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington (R-TX) has defended the resolution, saying it is a necessary step towards addressing the countrys needs. The resolution tees up two legislative priorities for Home Republicans: the White Houses military supplemental request and enacting the SAVE America Act. The resolution is in line with the White Home's request for $67 billion to support national defense.
However,it does not include the full $350 billion that President Donald Trump has called on Congress to pass through reconciliation. republicans are also hoping to include provisions from the voter identification bill, but it is unclear whether the language would pass the Senate's Byrd Rule. The request comes as the administration faces renewed fighting with Iran, and reconciliation is a budget process that allows the GOP to quickly implement Trump's policies by bypassing the Senates 60-vote threshold and passing the bill with a simple majority
