Several House Republicans have flipped their votes in favor of Republican House speaker nominee Jim Jordan , reportedly believing he would allow a floor vote on tying funding for Ukraine and Israel.
"However you feel about Israel and Ukraine, I think a responsible and reasonable government ought to address those questions separately," Rep. Matt Gaetz said last week. Gaetz has endorsed Jordan for the speakership. “@Jim_Jordan and I have had two cordial, thoughtful, and productive conversations over the past two days. We agreed on the need for Congress to pass a strong NDAA, appropriations to fund our government’s vital functions, and other important legislation like the Farm Bill,” Rogers posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday. “As a result, I have decided to support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House on the floor.
— Mike Rogers October 16, 2023 Rogers previously claimed that"nothing" Jordan did would make him flip his vote and support him as speaker. Reps. Ken Calvert and Ann Wagner also flipped their votes. Calvert stated the decision came after speaking to Jordan about their appropriations and national security goals.
